In-formed

     In-formed is an interactive sound installation that immerses us in a sensitive field, inspired by Tom L. Clancy’s famous sentence from his interview with Sarah Schafer;

The control of information is something the elite always does, particularly in a despotic form of government. Information, knowledge, is power. If you can control information, you can control people.

      The work consists of four triangular prism shaped columns(200x41cm) with sensors, microphones, speakers and light which is inspired by an object called ‘’monolith’’ from Arthur C. Clarke’s famous roman, 2001: A Space Odyssey. (example 7&8.) Each person who enters to the field will hear the sound of the moment five seconds before the present, at a low volume. Also, laser distance sensors measure the distance between a person and  a column. When a person approaches the column to be able to hear the environment sound better, the environment sound begins to turn incomprehensible whispers. This is a metaphorical gesture that based on many government’s politics of hiding, distorting and covering the information from societies. If a government does not want us to know the current economical situations or unsolved murders, it just offers us whispers full of conspiracy theories.

     Especially, in the 21th century, with the development of social media platforms these whispers have increased and it has become very difficult to reach pure information. Besides, many information sources are censored, many journalists, thinkers are arrested and their words have been replaced by these whispers either. Under these circumstances, countries turned into uncanny valleys where societies live with dilemmas, uncertainties and unrest.

Note: Except electronic part (sensor circuits and their connection with Raspberry Pies), the work physically could not be completed because of the Covid-19.
